| Full Mission Simulator for W-3WA "Sokół" multipurpose helicopter
The simulator is used to train W-3WA ‘Sokół’ multipurpose helicopter pilots, among others, in:
- Familiarization with the cockpit equipment and starting procedures,
- Flying the helicopter,
- Navigational flights,
- Low-level flights, contour flights and NOE
- Formation flights
- Flying in VFR and IFR conditions, in different weather conditions and different times of day and seasons,
- Combat tasks training (reconnaissance flights, attacking ground targets, landing troops) in conditions of modern battlefield,
- Training with the use of night-vision goggles
General description
The helicopter cockpit is equipped with the 4-channel flying control loading system, imitators of all on-board instruments and switches of the real cockpit. It is also equipped with pilots’ seat vibration generators. The simulator uses a five-channel infinity image back projection system with field of view 200° horizontally and 60° vertically.
The simulator is equipped with six degrees-of-freedom hydraulic motion system.
Motion system was specially designed and manufactured by the ETC-PZL Aerospace
Industries in order to meet this simulator requirements for. Total payload
of the hydraulic platform is 8.5 kg, and maximum acceleration up to 0.9 G.
Real time computer system consists of a network of PCs and Silicon Graphics
ONYX as a image generator.

Układ ten został zaprojektowany i wykonany specjalnie pod
kątem wysokich wymagań tego symulatora. Całkowity udźwig platformy hydraulicznej
wynosi 8,500 kg a maksymalne przyspieszenia do 0.9 G.
System komputerowy czasu rzeczywistego. Składa się on z komputerów PC i
z komputera Silicon Graphics ONYX, który spełnia funkcje generatora
obrazu systemu wizualizacji.
Instructor - Operator Station (IOS) is equipped with monitors and a set of
control devices, which allow the instructor to start the simulator, control
the exercise, bring-in malfunctions and control the virtual environment. The
IOS structure also allows monitoring and control of all the simulator systems
and the performance of the crew.
Terrain data base with 3 levels of fidelity:
- High fidelity data base covering around 1000 km2 of the real
terrain used for training contour flights and NOE,
- Medium fidelity data base covering around 40,000 km2 of real
terrain used for training low-level flights and visual navigation,
- Navigational data base of the whole Poland for training flights with
the use of radio navigation systems.
The simulator has been used by Polish Land Forces since 2003.
